Kerry Washington on S.T.A.R. in Vanity Fair

Kerry Washington, one of S.T.A.R.’s most famous alumni in Vanity Fair:

Washington tells Kamp that some of the best actor training she ever had was as a teen safe-sex advocate, performing self-written sex-ed sketches with an educational troupe in schools and community centers: “We would stay in character after the show, and the audience would interact with us. S.T.A.R. has been going strong since Kerry’s time with the company, empowering the youth of today, and training the adults of tomorrow to lead healthier, more socially-conscious lives. This past year, S.T.A.R. continued to grow at its new home at The Directors Company, utilizing the performing arts in schools and health centers throughout New York City. We launched S.T.A.R West in California, where the students became the actors in a week-long program. And we even streamed live to thousands around the world via the WiredArts Festival, reaching many more who otherwise wouldn’t get a chance to interact with us!

Summer’s here, but we’re already busy planning for the 2013-2014 school year! Will you help us with a donation to S.T.A.R. at The Directors Company today? Your donation will help us reach thousands more students, parents and teachers in New York City and beyond. Donations can be made securely here.

Have a happy, healthy and safe summer!
